Concept Statement
A sweet revelation worth sharing: Contrary to popular belief, the colorful parts of the bougainvillea plant are not flowers. They are specialized leaves called bracts. The true flowers of the bougainvillea are white/cream, and they bloom inside these bracts. The bright-colored bracts in this case are there to attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and other pollinating insects to the plant. Making it easy for them to locate the actual flowers (which are petite) and sip their sweet nectar. As a designer, I marvel at how God used one single visual element to attract and connect humans, hummingbirds, butterflies, and all other sorts of pollinating insects to this plant: bright colors 🙌🏽. I believe that He even took into account that humans love options and have (color) preferences. Hence, the color variations. This was just one small feature of the plant briefly explained. It gets way more intricate. Yet this one feature is enough to see God’s invisible qualities- His perfect knowledge and wisdom and His divine, creative and caring nature- being expressed to us.
