Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our materials, care, sizing, orders and the journey from our brand to you.

01

Materials &
finishes

What is Concept Statement jewelry made of?

Many of our pieces are made from 316L stainless steel, chosen for its strength, corrosion resistance and easy everyday care. Depending on the design, a piece may also include enamel, a fabric cord or another detail. You’ll always find the exact materials and finish on the product page.

Explore all jewelry
What is 316L stainless steel?

316L is a durable grade of stainless steel that resists corrosion well and needs less maintenance than many traditional jewelry metals. It is still jewelry, so scratches, surface wear and changes caused by friction, chemicals or storage can happen over time.

What does PVD mean?

PVD stands for Physical Vapour Deposition: the process used to apply a thin, durable finish to stainless steel. We choose it because it holds its colour through everyday wear and needs little maintenance. It is made to be worn, not saved for special occasions.

Check the product page for the materials and finish of your particular piece.

Is your gold finish solid gold?

No. When a piece is described as gold PVD or gold plated, it has a gold-coloured finish over stainless steel; it is not solid gold. Please check the product page for the finish used on the exact piece you’re considering.

How does stainless steel compare with gold, silver, brass and copper?

They are different materials, not quality levels of the same thing. Solid gold is a precious metal and its properties depend on its karat. Sterling silver can naturally tarnish and usually needs polishing. Brass and copper can oxidise and may change colour with wear. 316L stainless steel is strong, corrosion-resistant and low-maintenance, which is why we use it for jewelry made to be worn often.

Is Concept Statement jewelry hypoallergenic?

We use 316L stainless steel for many designs, but no jewelry material can be guaranteed irritation-free for every person. If you have a known metal allergy or very sensitive skin, check the material details on the product page and ask a medical professional if you are unsure.

Will my jewelry lose its colour or turn green?

Our 316L stainless steel pieces with a PVD finish are chosen to hold their colour through everyday wear. This is not a finish that is meant to disappear after a few wears.

Over years of daily wear, the surface can pick up fine scratches and look a little less bright than a brand-new piece. A gold piece can still look gold, just with a softer shine. That gradual change from wear is different from the metal turning green or quickly losing its colour.

How you wear and care for your piece matters. If it includes fabric, enamel, pearls or other details, those materials need their own care too.

02

Wearing
& care

Can I shower, swim or exercise in my jewelry?

Yes, if your piece is made only from 316L stainless steel with a PVD finish. It is made for everyday wear, including showering, swimming and exercise. Rinse off salt, chlorine, soap and sweat afterwards, then dry it gently.

If your piece includes a fabric cord, pearls, enamel or other decorative details, we recommend taking it off before swimming, showering or activities that keep it wet. The extra care is for those materials. Check your product page if you are unsure what your piece contains.

How should I clean my jewelry?

For pieces made only from stainless steel: take the piece off and let it soak briefly in lukewarm water with a little mild soap. Clean gently, rinse well and pat dry with a soft, clean cloth. Let it dry completely before storing it.

For pieces with enamel, faux pearls, stones or other decorative details: do not soak the whole piece. Wipe gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth, then pat dry. Avoid rubbing or pulling at the details.

For fabric cords: gently spot-clean where needed with a little lukewarm water and mild soap, then leave to air-dry. Avoid soaking, wringing or heat.

Soap, skincare, sweat and everyday dirt can build up around chains and clasps, even on jewelry that handles water well. Taking your piece off for a proper clean helps keep it fresh. Avoid bleach, abrasive cloths and strong cleaning products.

How should I store my jewelry?

Store each piece clean and dry, preferably on its own in its box or a soft pouch. Keep it away from direct sunlight, humidity and hard surfaces that can cause scratches. Fasten chains before storing them to help prevent tangling.

How do I care for a fabric cord bracelet?

The stainless steel charm and the fabric cord have different care needs. Some people keep their bracelet on for everything and do not mind the cord developing a more worn-in look. If you want to preserve its original colour for as long as possible, take it off before swimming, showering, cleaning or anything that keeps it wet.

Think of your favourite T-shirt: wearing and washing it every day will gradually change the colour and feel of the fabric. A cord behaves in much the same way. Repeated moisture and friction can fade the colour or change its texture over time; that is about the fabric, not the stainless steel charm.

Keep perfume, lotion and cleaning products away from the cord. If it gets wet, blot it gently and let it air-dry. Use the sliding knot or fastening to adjust it rather than pulling on the charm.

Can I sleep in my jewelry?

We recommend taking it off before sleeping. Chains, clasps, earrings and cords can catch, twist or rub while you move, which can damage the piece and is less comfortable for you.

How do I remove a knot from a necklace?

Lay the necklace flat in good light and give yourself time. Place two fine needles or pins into the centre of the knot and gently work them apart to loosen it. Do not pull on the chain, as that can tighten the knot or damage the links. If it will not come loose, contact us and we can assess it.

Can the cord on my bracelet be replaced?

Yes. We can replace a worn or damaged cord. This is a paid service, and the cost depends on the bracelet and the work needed. Send us a clear photo so we can assess it first.

03

Sizing
& fit

Where can I find the size of a piece?

Measurements are listed on the individual product page whenever they apply. Necklace lengths, extender lengths, bracelet fit and ring sizes vary by design, so use the details for that exact piece rather than a general estimate.

How do I choose a necklace length?

Compare the listed length with a necklace you already like, or place a piece of string around your neck and measure where you want the pendant to sit. Remember that pendant size, neck size and clothing can change how the same chain length looks.

Which ring sizes do you use, and how do I choose mine?

We use US ring sizes. Check the available sizes on the product page. If you know your size in another system, a jeweller can help you convert it or measure your finger.

Measure the finger you plan to wear the ring on. Fingers can change with temperature and time of day, so it helps to check more than once. If you are unsure, contact us with the ring you are considering.

Are the cord bracelets adjustable?

Many cord bracelets are adjustable, but the exact fit and construction are listed on the product page. Check the measurements before ordering, especially if you prefer a close or loose fit.

What if I am between sizes?

Please contact us before ordering and tell us which piece you are considering. Because fit depends on the design, we would rather help you check the product details than give you a one-size-fits-all answer.

Contact us
Can you adjust a necklace or make a custom length?

Yes. We can adjust necklace lengths, make selected pieces in a custom size and adapt certain chains. Contact us before ordering—or send a photo if you already own the piece—so we can confirm what is possible, the price and the timing.

04

Orders &
payment

Which payment methods can I use?

The payment methods available for your country are shown at checkout. The website currently supports secure options including iDEAL, cards, Klarna and PayPal where available.

What if my order confirmation does not arrive?

Check your spam or junk folder first. Still cannot find it? Shoot us an email at info@conceptstatement.com with the name and email address you used to order, and we will check it for you.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Contact us as soon as possible at info@conceptstatement.com. We may be able to change or cancel an unfulfilled item before it has entered processing, but we cannot guarantee this once fulfilment or dispatch has begun. Your statutory rights are not affected.

I entered the wrong delivery address. What should I do?

Email us as soon as possible with your order number and the correct address. We will try to update it before shipment, but changes may no longer be possible once fulfilment has started. Additional shipping costs may apply if an incorrectly addressed parcel is returned and needs to be sent again.

How do your digital gift cards work?

Our digital gift cards arrive by email. Each email includes a gift card code and instructions for using it at checkout, so the recipient can choose their own piece and finish.

The available values and current conditions are shown on the product page.

Shop the gift card
Do you make custom or personalised pieces?

Where possible, yes. Contact us with your idea and we will first confirm whether we can make it. Before work begins, we agree the design, price and expected timing with you. Custom orders usually need more time than our standard processing window.

During the process, we share photos and videos so you can follow the piece as it develops and know what is happening. Because the finished piece is made specifically to the agreed requirements, custom orders cannot be returned simply because you change your mind. This does not affect your rights if the piece is faulty or does not match what we agreed.

How will my order be packaged?

Your jewelry arrives in a jewelry box. When you order more than one piece, the pieces may be packed together. If you need separate boxes, add gift wrapping for each separate gift or contact us before ordering.

Do you offer gift wrapping and personal notes?

Yes. Gift wrapping is available for €4 per wrapped gift and includes the option to add a handwritten message on a small gift-note card. Several pieces wrapped together count as one gift; pieces wrapped separately count as separate gifts.

Add gift wrapping
Can I pick up my order in Rotterdam?

Yes! Curbside pickup in Rotterdam is available by appointment only. Please wait for us to confirm your appointment before arriving. Pickup is strictly for collecting your order at the building entrance; browsing, viewing or trying on jewelry is not possible.

If you haven't paid online, you can pay by card at pickup. Cash payments are not accepted.

05

Shipping &
delivery

Where do you ship from?

Orders are dispatched from Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Do you ship to my country or island?

We ship to most parts of the world, including Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, other Caribbean islands, the United States, destinations across Asia and South America, and beyond.

Enter your delivery address at checkout to see the available shipping options and the price for your destination before you pay. If no option appears for your address, email us and we will check what is possible.

When will you dispatch my order?

Standard orders are prepared and dispatched within 1–2 business days. This is the time we need to pack your order before it begins its journey to you.

Custom orders take longer. We agree the timing with you before we begin.

How much does shipping cost?

Tracked shipping within the Netherlands costs €4.25 and is free on orders of €100 or more.

For Belgium and all other destinations, enter your delivery address at checkout to see the shipping price before you pay.

When can I expect my order to arrive?

For the Netherlands and Belgium, allow 1–2 business days for us to prepare your order, followed by an estimated 1–2 business days for delivery after dispatch.

For other destinations, we also dispatch standard orders within 1–2 business days. Delivery time then depends on the carrier and local delivery services, and customs where applicable. International delivery can vary, so we cannot promise one timeframe for every destination.

These are estimates. Weekends, public holidays and carrier delays can affect arrival.

Will I receive tracking?

You will receive a shipping confirmation by email after dispatch. If your chosen shipping method includes tracking, the tracking details will be included. It can take a short time for a new tracking link to become active.

Will I pay customs duties or import taxes?

Orders delivered outside the European Union may be subject to local duties, taxes or handling charges. Unless checkout clearly says otherwise, these costs are not included and are the recipient’s responsibility.

What should I do if my parcel is delayed, missing or damaged?

Check your tracking and any neighbour, reception or collection point first. If the parcel is unusually delayed, cannot be found or arrives damaged, email info@conceptstatement.com with your order number and, where helpful, clear photos. We will review the shipment and work with the carrier where needed.

06

Returns &
exchanges

Can I return my order?

If you change your mind, you can notify us within 14 calendar days starting the day after you receive the order. After notifying us, you have a further 14 calendar days to send the return. Exceptions can apply to personalised or made-to-order products.

Read the Returns & Refunds Policy
How do I start a return?

Email info@conceptstatement.com within the withdrawal period and include your order number. We will provide the relevant return information. Please use a trackable method and keep proof of shipment until your return has been processed.

Who pays for return shipping?

For a normal change-of-mind return, return shipping is your responsibility unless we agree otherwise or the law requires a different outcome. If an item is faulty, damaged or incorrect, contact us so we can arrange an appropriate solution.

How should I pack and send a return?

We pack your pieces with care so they reach you safely. If you’re sending something back for a return or repair, please give it that same care on the way back to us.

Pack it securely, choose a tracked shipping service and keep your drop-off receipt until everything is settled. For higher-value pieces, consider adding insurance.

If your parcel is delayed or goes missing, please contact the carrier you booked and share the tracking details with us so we know what’s happening.

For shipping responsibility and refund timing, see our Returns & Refunds Policy. If your piece is faulty, damaged or incorrect, contact us first so we can agree on the shipping arrangements.

What condition must a return be in?

You may inspect a product as you reasonably would in a physical store. It should be returned in its original condition and should not show wear or use beyond that inspection. Where possible, include the original packaging and all accessories or components.

Can I return earrings?

Yes. Earrings follow the same return period and inspection rules as other jewelry. They must be returned in their original condition, with no scratches, damage or signs of wear beyond what is reasonably necessary to inspect them. If handling has reduced their value, a deduction may be made where permitted by law.

Can I return a custom order?

Custom orders are made specifically to the requirements agreed with you, so they cannot be returned because you change your mind. Before and during production, we keep you informed with agreed details, photos and videos of the process. If the finished piece is faulty or does not match what we agreed, please contact us—your statutory rights still apply.

Can I exchange an item?

Yes. Contact us with your order number and the piece you would like instead; you do not need to place a new order. If the replacement costs less, we refund the difference. If it costs more, we send you an invoice for the remaining amount. Return conditions still apply.

Can sale items be returned?

Yes. A reduced price does not remove the statutory right of withdrawal. The normal return conditions still apply.

When will I receive my refund?

Refunds are made within the period described in our Returns & Refunds Policy. We may wait until we receive the returned goods or proof that you sent them back, whichever comes first. The refund normally goes to the original payment method.

I bought my piece from a retailer. Can I return it to Concept Statement?

Purchases made from another retailer must be returned to that retailer. Your purchase agreement is with the shop that sold the piece, so it is responsible for returns, exchanges and refunds.

Find a retailer
What if something happens to my piece?

I stand behind the pieces I make, and I am happy to look at a repair if something happens to yours—even if you have had it for years.

Send us a clear photo, your order or purchase information, and tell us what happened and when. We look at the issue, how it happened and how long you have had the piece before confirming what we can do.

A repair may be complimentary or there may be a fee, depending on the circumstances. We explain any costs before starting the work. Your statutory rights for faulty goods remain unchanged.

How should I send a piece for repair?

Contact us before sending your piece so we can confirm the address and shipping arrangements. Please give it the same care on the way back that we give your orders: pack it securely, choose a tracked service and keep your drop-off receipt. For higher-value pieces, consider insurance.

Once your piece reaches us, we can inspect it and confirm the repair work. Your statutory rights for faulty goods remain unchanged.

Can I replace one lost earring?

Yes, a single replacement may be possible if we have your earring in stock. Send us a photo of the earring you still have, or the product name and finish, and we will check availability and confirm the price. Single replacements are a paid service.

Can you repair a piece bought from one of your retailers?

Yes. If it is an authentic Concept Statement piece, we can assess it for repair or aftercare even when it was purchased through one of our retailers. Send us clear photos and any purchase information you still have. A fee may apply depending on the issue and work required.

About Concept
Statement

Who is behind Concept Statement?

I’m Rugeen Lodewijks, the founder and designer behind Concept Statement. I was born in Curaçao and am based in Rotterdam. I made my first island piece because I wanted to wear my island beautifully and keep it with me. That is where this all began.

The first Curaçao necklace, released in 2014, was developed with a trusted creative collaborator working from my concept and direction. I have designed every Concept Statement piece that followed.

What makes Concept Statement the OG?

We created the original ready-to-wear island jewelry collection featuring Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. Our community started calling our pieces “the OG”—the original—and the name stuck. We embraced it, and you will now find The OG in our product names and engraved on selected island pieces.

Where is Concept Statement jewelry made?

I work with specialist production partners in different parts of the world. Some pieces arrive complete; others are assembled by me and a small team. The partner depends on the design and the work it needs.

You can find the materials and finish of each piece on its product page.

How can I tell whether a Concept Statement piece is authentic?

Every Concept Statement jewelry piece made since 2018 carries our branding. Depending on the design, you may find a small branded tag near the clasp, an engraving on the back of the piece or island, or both—some pieces have two engravings. On an island piece, the engraved side is the back and is designed to sit against your skin, with the smooth side facing outward. Older pieces made before 2018 may not carry the same marking.

If you are unsure, send us clear photos of the front, back, clasp and any tags or engravings, together with any purchase information you have. We can assess whether it appears to be an authentic Concept Statement piece.

Will a sold-out piece come back?

Most sold-out pieces are restocked. Register for the restock notification on the product page and we will let you know when a piece returns. Limited Editions and pieces marked Last Chance are the exceptions: once they are gone, they do not come back.

What does Limited Edition mean?

A Limited Edition is made in a fixed quantity. Once that quantity has sold out, the piece or collection is truly gone and will not be produced again. Past limited collections have included Laman, Tera & Mondi and Paraiso.

How are the island pieces designed?

The island is the starting point. Rugeen studies its natural silhouette, keeps the details that make it recognisable and refines the scale, orientation and placement until the shape works as jewelry. The goal is not to add noise, but to create a piece that feels balanced, familiar and easy to live in.
